Drinking water violation not considered a danger

Paola recently committed a drinking water violation, but city officials said water customers are in no danger.

According to a notice released last week, the city did not complete all required monitoring or testing for coliform bacteria during January and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of the drinking water during that time.

Public works director Gerry Bieker said the city is required to test for the bacteria at least six times per month, and although the tests were completed and mailed, the carrier failed to deliver three of the samples.

Despite the error, Bieker is confident that the city's drinking water is safe. All of the samples taken before the error and after it have been good, he said.
