Saturday’s Sugar Mound Arts & Crafts Festival parade has traditionally featured floats, bands, classic cars, horses and anyone else who wishes to participate. Potential participants can register between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Saturday at the check-in table in front of the Linn County Courthouse, 315 Main St., Mound City.

Saturday's Sugar Mound Arts & Crafts Festival parade in Mound City will celebrate something other than the 36-year-old festival this year — Mound City's 150th birthday.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will travel east to west down Main Street, which is also Kansas Highway 52. The stretch of Main Street from Second Street to Kansas Highway 7 will likely be closed around 9 a.m., said Peggy Wakefield, one of six volunteers who organize the parade.

Wakefield said the parade would feature the usual parade fare, including floats, marching bands and classic cars.

Parade entries will continue to be accepted through Saturday morning. To enter Saturday morning, go to the registration table in front of the Linn County Courthouse between 8:30 and 9 a.m. to get a number. The theme is “Happy 150th Birthday, Mound City!” Wakefield said.

Because of the size of the Sugar Mound festival, no other birthday activities have been planned, she said. Still, there should be a good crowd.

“It's a fun-filled weekend in Mound City,” she said.

Main Street will reopen after the parade.
