You might call this tale “The Wrestling McCormick Brothers Go to College.”

All three siblings have wrestled for Blue Valley North High School and all three have won state individual high school wrestling titles for the Mustangs.

Now all three will attend the University of Missouri to further their wrestling careers.

That became official Nov. 14 when Mustangs senior Nathan McCormick signed his letter of intent to wrestle for the Tigers.

Chris McCormick wrestled at Missouri from 2001-2005, while Tyler McCormick is a senior All-American wrestler for the Tigers.

“They are my role models,” Nathan said. “They had great success on and off the mats. That's what I want to be.”

Chris wrestled four years for the Tigers and served as a graduate assistant coach last year. He is working in St. Joseph, Mo., this year and coaching club wrestling.

Tyler placed seventh in the nation as a sophomore and sixth last year at the NCAA national tournament. He ranks No. 2 at 133 pounds coming into this season. He is a two-time All-American and one of the Tigers' captains for the 2007-2008 season.

He will graduate in December with a business management degree. He has a 3.98 grade-point average. According to Nathan, he is looking at going to law school.

Nathan is a two-time All-Sun first-team selection at 103 pounds as a sophomore and 119 as a junior. He is defending Class 6A state individual champion at 119.

Blue Valley North wrestling Coach Dylan Hitchcock said, “He put in a lot hard work to get where he is. It hasn't happened overnight. He is joining one of the best programs in the nation.”

So why is the Mustangs senior following his two older brothers to Missouri?

“I like their program,” he said. “The guys on the team are friends. I know the environment.”

With two brothers in wrestling, Nathan got his start in the sport at the age of 4.

When he started wrestling for the Mustangs he might have weighed 90 pounds. He wrestled at 103 and made the All-Sun honorable-mention list.

In his sophomore year he placed second at state at 103.

Both of his brothers captured state titles as seniors for Blue Valley North.

Nathan is ahead of the McCormick pace with a state title as a junior. Repeating as a senior will have him a step up on his older brothers. He will be wrestling at 125 this year.

“My goal is to dominate everyone and repeat as state champion,” he said.

Nathan carries a 3.7 grade-point average in the classroom and is undecided on his college major.
