Weekend expands its news coverage across region
Editorial
By Doug Carder, dcarder@miconews.com
The Weekend edition is continuing to evolve as we mark our second anniversary of the publication in February.
It’s difficult to start a new publication, especially in an age when more people are turning to the Internet for their news, but the Weekend is making progress, based on our newsstand sales.
While we have received good feedback about our features in the Living section, our calendars and our sports coverage, two consistent criticisms have been that some readers feel intimidated by our long news cover stories, and most people across our multiple-county circulation base would like to see more news from their respective communities in the publication.
In an effort to address both concerns, we’ve decided to devote more resources to the publication in order to produce more stories from all our coverage regions. Each Friday, readers will find articles in the Weekend from Paola, Osawatomie, Louisburg, Spring Hill and Linn County, as well as Miami County government news, court and sheriff reports, obituaries, calendars, sports and outdoors coverage.
Readers will also find all the other regular features they have grown accustomed to reading in the paper, such as the road report, weather forecast, Fun & Games, Master Gardener column and more.
We hope you enjoy our revamped Weekend paper, and as always, I welcome your comments. You can reach me at dcarder@miconews.com.
