A Northland builder will again be featured on a national television program when an “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” episode recently filmed in Kansas City, Kan., airs this Sunday, Feb. 10, on ABC.

The episode, filmed about three months ago, will feature the construction of a 3,000-square-foot home for Iraq war veteran Daniel Gilyeat and his four children. The two-hour special will begin at 6 p.m. with a one-hour tribute to the Gilyeat family, including a live broadcast from a special viewing of the episode at The Legends movie theater. Following the event, ABC will air the episode at 7 p.m. on Channel 9.

Kevin Green, owner of Kevin Green Homes in Parkville, was selected to construct the Gilyeat family’s new home under a one-week deadline. Green has been selected to lead the projects for all three episodes of the show filmed in the Kansas City area. Green said he had high hopes for the upcoming episode, as the previous two generated the highest viewer ratings in the history of local television.

“It’s exciting for all of us,” Green said.

Green’s previous projects included building homes for a family in Clay County and a family in Raytown.

Green has used the same group of subcontractors, many of whom are based in the Northland, for all three projects.

“It’s been fun to work with the same people time after time,” Green said. “It’s still a challenge every time you do it.”

Green said discussions had already taken place with the show’s producers regarding the filming of a fourth project in the Kansas City area.

“There will be a fourth show, it’s just a matter of when,” Green said.

Tony Libra, a spokesman for Kevin Green Homes, said tickets for the private viewing event at The Legends were given to volunteers and Kansas City, Kan., officials. He said as many as 700 attendees were expected at the event.
