Shawnee-based Perceptive Soft-ware will host the third annual Dodge for a Cause charity dodgeball tournament, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

On March 29-30 and April 5-6, 64 teams will compete for $1,000 and a chance to earn a bid into the 2008 National Amateur Dodgeball Associa-tion Outdoor National Tournament in Chicago, including free roundtrip airfare courtesy of Southwest Airlines.

Dodge for a Cause will be held at Perceptive Software’s headquarters, 22701 W. 68th Terrace, Shawnee, which features an NADA-approved dodgeball court.

“Perceptive Software is excited to host the third annual Dodge for a Cause tournament, a rewarding and enjoyable event for our team and the community,” Scott Coons, Perceptive Software president and CEO, said. “Dodge for a Cause will raise more than $16,000 for the Kansas City Chapter of JDRF, helping in its quest to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.”

Teams should consist of eight individuals 18 and older. Each team is guaranteed three matches or a minimum of six games. Prizes will be awarded for Best Uniforms, Best Team Name, Best Theme Song and Best Team Spirit.

Registration is $250 per team and all proceeds go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Since 2006, Dodge for a Cause has generated nearly $24,000 for the foundation.

“This is our third year to partner with Perceptive Software and we are grateful for their continued support of diabetes research,” Yvonne Miller, Kansas City Chapter executive director, said.
