Die-hard Wildcat fans have the opportunity to purchase a larger than life piece of artwork.

Forty students from Brian Burns’ 2D/3D art classes at Louisburg High School worked together to create a 4 1/2-foot by 3-foot abstract wildcat design, separated into 40 mosaic glass squares, each created by a different student.

To create the piece, each student drew the design on their square before cutting their glass, Burns said.

“Once the glass was cut in mosaic style, they could piece their square together. I told them the craftsmanship had to be near to perfect for the whole design to work out,” Burns said.

After the glass was glued on, students grouted and shined their individual pieces before putting them together to make the larger wildcat design.

“I had my wonderful students do this design because it was a wildcat,” Burns said. “I designed it with Louisburg Wildcat fans in mind, and also K-State Wildcat fans.”

To reward his students’ hard work, Burns said he hopes to have an end-of-the-year party with the money raised from the sale of the wildcat. “It’s expensive to have a party for 40 students, so I am asking no less than $400 for it,” Burns said.

Anyone interested in purchasing the artwork can contact Burns by e-mail, burnsb@usd416.org, or by calling the school, 837-2941.

Four years ago, Burns auctioned off a large oil pastel picture of Bob Marley made by his fibers class.

“I wish I could do this for all my classes,” he said. “I have some good students throughout the years.”
