Kansas author Max Yoho will be the guest speaker at the Friends of the Paola Free Library quarterly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

Yoho spent the first 10 years of his life in Colony, Kan., before moving to Atchison. In 1949, he moved to Topeka, where he graduated from Topeka High School and then attended Washburn University. He currently lives in Topeka.

Yoho will discuss his first novel, “The Revival,” and another book he has written. He will be accompanied by his wife, Carol.

“The Revival” is the story of an 11-year-old boy in Epic, Kan., a fictional small town very similar to Colony, seven miles north of Iola, where Yoho grew up. Drawing on experiences from his own growing-up years, he wrote a book that is full of innocence and humor.

In 2007, “The Revival” and “The Moon Butter Route,” Yoho’s second novel, were named among 12 “Kansas Favorite Books” by the Kansas Center for the Book, a division of the State Library of Kansas. “The Revival” also received the J. Donald Coffin Memorial Award of the Kansas Authors Club in 2002.

Yoho’s first career was as a machinist, a profession from which he retired in 1992. In addition to writing, he enjoys cooking and collecting old musical instruments.

Everyone is invited to attend. Yoho’s books will be available for purchase.
