Crazy Lady strikes again with May basket
Stray Thoughts
By Jean Carder
The little paws are fluffy and white. The beady black eyes follow my every move. The tail swings gently from its purple backside.
Wait! Did I say purple backside? What dog or cat has a purple backside? The one sitting on my computer desk staring at me does.
She struck again. That Crazy Lady has been up to her mischief again. I’m probably the only person in Louisburg that received a May basket this year thanks to Crazy Lady.
Doug called me one day last week and said I had a present at the office. He thinks the Crazy Lady watched for him to leave the office and made her move. While he was gone, Kristen said a lady she didn’t know dropped by with the May basket.
It’s the cutest May basket going, too. Hallmark would be jealous. Crazy Lady got out her yarn and crafted a purple basket, made to look like a Wildcat, of course. My basket has a little kitty face on the front, complete with four white paws and a white tail and the beady googly eyes. The inside of the basket is an old plastic milk jug, and a handle runs from one side to the other. My May basket came complete with lilacs, one of the best-smelling spring flowers around.
Most of you know that Crazy Lady has been surprising me with little gifts and notes for the past year or so. It’s been a lot of fun, and at first I was curious as to her identity. Now I’m not so curious. I’m still not certain who she is, but I think it’s more fun not to know.
In her note this time, Crazy Lady wrote “I just thought I would let you know that I haven’t forgotten you. Of course I wouldn’t want to write too often, that would just bore you. I certainly don’t want to do that.”
That’s just plain silly. If I haven’t bored Crazy Lady after two years of columns, then there’s no way she can bore me with her once-every-few-months notes.
She goes on to say, “But mostly just remember this is a May Day basket from one friend to another. Enjoy! Have a wonderful day and enjoy your flowers and basket.”
And I did.
