Second-graders get ready for sacrament with Jesus Day activities

Holy Trinity Catholic School’s second-graders spent the entire day Friday making final preparations for their First Communion.
The Jesus Day activities marked the students’ last day of class before their First Communion on Sunday.
“They had a whole day today of just First Communion fun stuff,” teacher Misty Pratt said.
As students pressed their hands into the balls of dough Friday afternoon, they were preparing to leave a bigger mark two days later.
The second-graders explored the differences between leavened and unleavened bread and made Bible bookmarks, stained glass window hangings and First Communion journals and prayer books after lunch Friday.
In the days leading up to the event, the students had been practicing in class and learning what the Eucharist means, including to them and other children, Pratt said.
On Thursday, the students decorated the banners that hung on the pews Sunday.
It was the sixth or seventh year of the students having Jesus Day activities, Pratt said.
