Wildcats survive scare in finale
Despite six-run seventh from Bulldogs, LHS wins 12-9

The seventh inning has been a nemesis for the Louisburg baseball team this season, and Thursday’s home contest with Anderson County wasn’t much different.
But this time the Wildcats pulled out the win.
Louisburg held a nine-run lead going into the seventh, but Anderson County threw a scare into the home team with six runs during the final inning of the Wildcats’ 12-9 victory. The Wildcats also improved their record to 8-9 in the process.
“The seventh inning has been a make-or-break inning for us all season,” Louisburg coach Jeff Lohse said. “Our record really doesn’t indicate how close we actually are of only having a few losses on the season. If we make plays earlier in some of those games, then it doesn’t come down to that inning, but we have to live with it now.
“I wasn’t really too worried, but it was starting to look very similar to previous games.”
The Louisburg bats lived off the Bulldog pitchers and scored those 12 runs on 10 hits. Senior Jared Drew had a 4 for 4 day with 3 RBIs, a double and a triple. Cody Larson finished with just a double, but had 4 RBIs in the process.
Matt Lemke was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Cody Vail and Kyle Nauman also recorded RBIs for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning to give themselves a big lead after an RBI double from Larson and back-to-back RBI singles from Nauman and Lemke. Louisburg added another run in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the sixth it would end up needing later.
“I thought we played extremely well until about the seventh inning,” Lohse said. “We had some guys have pretty good games at the plate and in the field.”
Kody Cook, Chris Cook and Vail all threw against Anderson County, and Vail picked up his first win of the season.
