Zoie Prothe grabbed the gold medal that hung around Linda Prothe’s neck and admired the now-metallic efforts of her grandmother.

After all, she might want one of her own someday.

Prothe got her medal for graduating Cum Laude from Fort Scott Community College. She was one of three students recognized at the first local celebration for graduates of the Paola campus.

Michelle Alqlaf, associate of science, and Christine Towler, associate of science in December 2007, were also recognized at the ceremony.

The short ceremony and reception were organized by the Miami County Campus Ambassadors, a young group that raised $300 during a garage sale earlier this month to fund the event.

The other graduates are listed below.

Associate of Science: Kristy Brunson, Pam Draper, Karla Easley, Suzanne Huffman, Russell Reynolds and Loren Wisemen.

Associate of Applied Science: John Christmore.

Associate of General Studies: Bryan Durham, Kenneth Foulk and Pamela Russell.

Certificates: Stacey Johnson and Stacy Miller (medical office assistant); Christina Reeve (business computers).

Kathy Hamlin also graduated.
