Motorcycle riders raised almost $3,000 for the American Cancer Society at the Miami County Ride for Life event May 3, and they’ll have two more chances this month to ride for different charities.
The Ride for Life raised $2,882, exceeding last year’s donations, according to a news release from organizers Jim and Dee Anne Mendel.
On Saturday, the hum of a group of motorcycle riders will again be heard in Miami County for the fourth-annual Big Brothers Big Sisters benefit poker run.
Registration for that event is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Rounders in Paola, and the motorcycles are scheduled to roll out at 11 a.m. There is a registration fee of $20 per bike, which includes a T-shirt, and $10 per passenger. Additional T-shirts will be available for $7.
There will be five stops on the run, and riders will get a card at each one. There will be prizes for the best, second-best and lowest hand. Raffle tickets also will be available for purchase. Additional poker hands will be available for $5.
The stops on the ride include Rounders, Timbercreek in Louisburg, Outpost in La Cygne, Lane Bar in Lane and Shipwreck Tavern in Osawatomie.
On May 31, riders will be riding for March of Dimes in a motorcycle event sponsored by Farmers Insurance. There will be a $15 rider donation for that event or $20 for a rider and a passenger.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Ray’s Power Sports in Paola at 302 N. Silver St. Riders will travel together to a dinner.
