Adults and children team up for hunt

The ice cream helped, but it didn’t take long after school May 6 for bigs (the adults) and littles (the children) to take off in pursuit of a rock the size of your thumb, a leaf the size of your hand, a friend, sand, an acorn, a flower and many more items.

In a recent after-school scavenger hunt sponsored by Miami County Big Brother/Big Sister, several families and their littles met in Osawatomie’s John Brown Memorial Park.

“It was fun watching the littles dragging their bigs around looking for worms and bottle caps,” said Tonia Johnson, BBBS case aide. “Some looked through trash. They had to find a friend only to find out that they had their friend with them the whole time — their big.”

As for finding a flower, each big and their little came back with dandelions, choosing not to pick any actual flowers.

“This was a good way for the BBBS kids and the adults to get to meet other bigs in the program,” she said.

“The adults had a great time, too, because they all admitted not having been on a scavenger hunt since high school.”
