Esther Elizabeth Towne

1915-2008

Esther Elizabeth Moore Towne, 92, Louisburg, died May 7, 2008, after a short illness, at the Olathe Medical Center.

She and her twin brother, Lester Eugene Moore, were born July 5, 1915, at Santa Fe, Mo.

The daughter of William Paxton Moore and Fannie Myrtis Lawson, she was one of ten children: Ernest Robert, William Clair, Nellie Forrest, Charles Brainard, Jennie Dorothy, Clyde Wallace, Rena Myrtle, Lester Eugene and Francis Marie.

She was married July 17, 1932, to Glenn Sterling Towne. They spent many years as a fixture on Main Street in Louisburg working side-by-side Monday through Saturday at their small grocery, Towne’s Market. Sundays were always set aside as a time for church and family.

She had three children, Joseph William Towne, Charlene Marie Bodenhamer and Charles Wallace Towne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, and sons, J.W. and Wally Towne, along with several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Bodenhamer of Whippany, N.J.; a sister, Francis Bell of Clinton, Miss.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Louisburg. Burial was in the Louisburg cemetery.

Arrangements were by Penwell-Gabel Louisburg Chapel, 120 S. Broadway, Louisburg, (913) 837-4310.
