OTTAWA — Clay Crawford opened with a 38 at the Ottawa Country Club on Monday morning and closed with a 39, carding a 77 to lead the Paola High School golf team in the Class 4A regional.
Crawford placed second on the leader board, four strokes back.
“He had a really good day,” Paola coach Lou Onofrio said. “He has been consistent for us all year.”
Joel Plummer was fourth with a 79.
Brad Pfaltzgraff and Matt Reed both shot 80, placing fifth and sixth with a one-hole playoff deciding the order.
Paola posted a team score of 316, defeating Louisburg by 16 strokes to win the regional title.
The Paola Panthers, the regional champions, and the Louisburg Wildcats, the regional runner-up, both qualified as teams for the state golf tournament Monday in Manhattan.
“I was really happy for them,” Onofrio said. “They have worked really hard. This is a good reward for the effort they put in.”
Dustin DeLand won a medal for the Louisburg Wildcats, placing seventh with an 81. Michael Bryson of Paola shot an 81 for eighth place. Patrick Dixon of Louisburg was ninth with an 81. Cody Madsen of Spring Hill shot an 82 for 10th place, qualifying for state as an individual.
Jake Delks shot a 90 for Paola, placing 17th.
