Reading bug program starts May 27
Children are encouraged to catch the reading bug during the the 2008 summer reading program at the Johnson County Library.
The program begins May 27 and runs through Aug. 2. This year, readers and listeners of all ages are encouraged to investigate the exciting world of books by keeping a log and attending library programs throughout the summer.
The theme for kids in fifth grade and younger is Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library, while tweens and teens in sixth grade and up can participate in Blow Your Mind: Metamorphosis @ Your Library. Reading logs are available at all Johnson County Library locations, including Spring Hill, or may be printed from the library’s summer reading Web site, www.jocolibrary.org/summerreading.
Summer reading program participants set their own goals for summer reading, record their books on their reading logs, and return the logs to the library July 14- Aug. 2. Weekly prize drawings are also planned during the summer at each library location.
Water feature to be dedicated May 22
The dedication of the city’s new water feature as part of the city’s sesquicentennial legacy project is set for 6:30 p.m. May 22 in the Spring Hill City Park.
In January, Spring Hill sesquicentennial committee members, and later city council members, approved plans for a water feature to be built in the park. The feature is being built to commemorate the city’s 150th birthday and constructed using money raised through donations and the sale of sesquicentennial items.
Crews began digging in early April to build the feature and finished the project in eight days.
