County sends land-use proposal back to Paola

The city of Paola will have to take a second look at a proposed change to its Land Development Ordinance to get the Miami County Commission’s stamp of approval.

The proposal, which would allow industrial uses in the estate district with conditional-use permits, needs the commissioners’ approval because it affects the city’s growth area.

On Wednesday, the commissioners voted unanimously to table it for about 30 days to allow the city to add wording that would give the county a say in the permitting process. The roads in the growth area are maintained by the county.

While city officials are open to that input, there needs to be something in the agreement so that partnership would carry over if staff changes, Commissioner Art Godfrey said.

The commissioners also tabled the regulations April 30 because of concerns about how county-owned roads would be affected.

In other business, the commissioners:
