Seniors at Prairie View and Pleasanton high schools will have their chance to celebrate graduation this weekend, with ceremonies at both schools scheduled for Sunday.

Prairie View will graduate its Class of 2008 at 2 p.m. Sunday in the downstairs gymnasium at the high school, while Pleasanton will hold its ceremony at 3 p.m. in the high school gym.

Both districts also have other end-of-the-year events planned for this week, including awards ceremonies at each high school both scheduled for this morning. Results of those ceremonies will be available next week.

Interested Prairie View graduating seniors will also take part in a baccalaureate ceremony Wednesday. The ceremony, which is sponsored by local churches, is the first such program held at the district since it was consolidated and formed in 1970.

Both districts are finalizing class rankings for the graduating classes.

At Prairie View, Kirsty Maris will graduate first in the class and be named valedictorian, while Ty Burgoon will finish as salutatorian. Elaine Wagner, Amanda Hatfield and Simeon White round out the top five of Prairie View’s class of 2008.

Pleasanton is still tabulating results and waiting for select college grades, and it did not have final rankings available at press time.
