Student Shows Art At La Cygne Library

Visitors to the La Cygne Public Library this past week have been greeted by the artwork of a talented local student, Prairie View junior Alana Unterbeck.

Unterbeck hosted an opening for her personal show last Thursday, and her artwork will be on display through this afternoon.

“I think we had like 90 people there, so that was a really neat experience,” Unterbeck said of the show’s opening.

She added that the exposure from the show has lead to phone calls from other area artists looking to trade artwork.

Unterbeck thanked art teacher Joe Summers and librarian Janet Reynolds for helping set the show up, and she said she hoped other students could have similar prospects in the future.

“I think they’re going to try and make this an ongoing thing, so hopefully, different students can get this opportunity to do a solo show,” she said. “It’s been a year where so many of my classmates have improved their painting, I’d like to see more people get this chance.”

Unterbeck won a best-in-show award at the inaugural Pioneer League art competition.
