Blue Mound, Prescott, get siren grant

The cities of Blue Mound and Prescott have both been awarded United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grants to purchase new storm sirens.

Blue Mound was awarded $12,750 for an early-warning storm siren, while Prescott was given $10,875. The funding came from the USDA’s Community Facilities grant program.

Prairie View Alumni to gather

Alumni of Prairie View High School dating back to the creation of the district in 1970 will gather June 7 for a full day of fun.

The second annual alumni golf tournament, hosted by the Buffalo Quarterback Club, will be a three-person team scramble. Cost is $150 per team and $100 to sponsor a hole. Anyone interested can contact Russel Claar at russel.claar@fbfs.com or Pat Foreman at pforeman@labettebank.com.

The golf tournament, and individual class reunions, will be capped off that evening by a “Dance in the Park” at La Cygne city park. The event, which will run from 8 p.m. June 7 until 1 a.m. June 8, will include a D.J./live music, followed by an “early bird” biscuits and gravy breakfast.

Entry to the park will be $10 per person, while the biscuits and gravy will cost $4 per plate.

Honorary bricks available

Community members interested in contributing to the development of the Heritage Park in Parker can do so by buying memorial/honorary bricks that will be placed on walls and paths in the park.

The bricks, which require a minimum donation of $50, would be engraved with three-quarter-inch text. Three lines of text up to 11 characters or spaces per line are allowable.

Anyone interested in purchasing the bricks can pick up an order form at the One-Stop at 301 Woodward St.

Seeking 100-year farms

The local branch of the Kansas Farm Bureau is seeking farms that have been family-owned for 100 years or more. Anyone who owns a 100-year farm is asked to contact the Mound City branch at (913) 795-2750.

Commission meeting rescheduled

The May 26 Linn County Commission meeting, which conflicts with Memorial Day, has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. May 27 at the county annex building.
