Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,

Have some people in our community became so caught up in their self-absorbed lives that they have chosen to not only be rude and disrespectful, but also a very bad example for our young people?

I ask this because I saw an incident that upset me, so I just had to write. Thursday evening the junior high put on a musical concert. The sixth-grade chorus sang, then the sixth-grade band played, then the seventh- and eighth-grade chorus sang, then came the mob. After the chorus was done, several people got up and left. The noise was so bad that Mr. Packard had to wait for the noise caused by them so rudely leaving to die down to begin the last part of the concert, which was the seventh- and eighth-grade band and then the entire junior high band.

This disrespectful act not only showed how rude those people are, but also told the children in our community that it is OK to be disrespectful and that those playing in the band were not as important. How can we expect our children to grow up to be successful adults when they have that kind of an example?

The people that walked out truly owe the junior high band an apology and need to take a close look at what is important. The junior high band was good, and they deserved the respect of all the people that walked in that door for the concert. The entire concert only lasted about an hour and 10 minutes. Had it not been for this rude interruption, the concert would have been over by shortly after 8 p.m., only 15 minutes after they left.
