Catholics to gather
for prayer at Kauffman
Thousands of Catholics will gather at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., on May 25 for an afternoon of adoration including the traditional devotional prayers of the rosary. The prayer intention for this event is for unity and peace within our world, our community and our families.
Stadium gates open at 2 p.m. A 200-voice massed choir and regionally-known music ensembles will perform from 3 to 4 p.m., when religious services begin. Admission and parking are free.
The Eucharistic Global Living Rosary is scheduled for the traditional Catholic feast day of Corpus Christi. Established more than 750 years ago, Corpus Christi observances inspire people to take to the streets to bring the presence of God into their communities.
Archbishop Joseph Naumann, from the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, and Bishop Robert Finn, from the Diocese of Kansas City – Saint Joseph, will lead the celebration.
More than 50 youths and adults will participate on the field by praying the “Living Rosary.” Prayers will be offered in 59 languages including Swahili, Chinese, Russian and Hindi.
For complete information and a schedule of events, visit www.eucharisticfamilyrosary.com. or contact Deacon Justin McMenamy, Eucharistic Global Living Rosary chairperson, at (816) 254-1528.
Group offers Jesus Yoga
at Unity Village
The Yoga of Jesus will be the topic of a free public lecture hosted by the Kansas City Meditation Group of Self-Realization Fellowship. Brother Prafullananda, a monk of the Self-Realization Fellowship for more than 25 years, will address the hidden teachings of the Gospels, as commented on by Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi.”
Considered the Father of Yoga in the West, Yogananda pioneered the modern-day Yoga movement. Brother Prafullananda will explain why Christianity and Yoga are not mutually exclusive but complementary spiritual paths.
All are welcome to attend the lecture from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23 at the Unity Village Spiritual Living Center, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village.
For more information, call the Kansas City Meditation Group of Self-Realization Fellowship at (816) 512-6205; e-mail Coordinator@kcmeditation.com; or visit www.kcmeditation.com.
Men begin mission
training in San Diego
There are nearly 53,000 full-time volunteer missionaries serving in 348 different Missions in the world for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yet two young men from Lenexa and Shawnee have accepted invitations to enter missionary service on the same date and will be headed to the same Mission.
Steven Charles Overman, 19, Lenexa, and Matt Shelton, 22, Shawnee, will both be working for two years as missionaries in the San Diego, Calif., Mission. They will both report to the Missionary Training Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Provo, Utah, on May 7.
During their eight-week stay in the Missionary Training Center, the two will study the scriptures and principles of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and master teaching and missionary techniques.
Elders Overman and Shelton, as they will be known during their mission, will be assigned another new missionary as a companion, and they will serve together 24 hours a day. Classes have 10 to 12 students who meet for about 10 hours a day. Each missionary has a half day each week to complete personal activities such as laundry and writing letters to family.
More information about the church and its missionary program is available at www.mormon.org or locally at the Independence Mormon Visitors Center, 937 W. Walnut, Independence, Mo.
