Raytown, Raytown South, O’Hara seniors preparing for graduation
By Mark Johnson
Area high school seniors will soon be receiving their diplomas, as Raytown South, Raytown and Archbishop O’Hara will be having commencement ceremonies in the coming days.
Raytown South’s commencement ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, at First Baptist Raytown, and Raytown’s commencement ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at First Baptist Raytown, said Cathy Allie, director of community relations for the school district.
Anyone coming to either commencement will need a ticket for admittance and is being asked to allow ample time to park and then find a seat before the graduation begins.
Each graduate is being given a limited number of tickets for family and friends.
Each visitor coming to commencement is being asked to abide by the dress code, which calls for men to wear slacks, shirts and shoes and women to wear a dress or slacks or a skirt with a shirt and shoes or dress sandals.
“No blue jeans, shorts, T-shirts, ball caps, tennis shoes, beach or shower sandals will be permitted,” according to information supplied by the school district. “Senior citizens only will be considered presentable in tennis/walking shoes.
“Children 12 and under will be considered presentable in shorts, blue jeans, tennis shoes and T-shirts.”
During the ceremony, visitors are being asked to stay in their seats for the entire program, take photos discreetly and avoid creating a disturbance.
“Guests failing to adhere to the rules will be asked to leave,” according to the school district.
Before the graduation ceremonies take place, each school will have a baccalaureate service Sunday, May 18, in their respective auditoriums.
Allie said the Raytown South service will start at 1:30 p.m. and the Raytown service would start at 2 p.m.
That same day, O’Hara’s graduation will come as it is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, in the John Know Pavilion.
This year’s class will have 111 graduates, said Kathy Ochs, the school’s director of public relations.
“Our valedictorians are Cameron Hinkle and Kevin Sack,” she said. “Our salutatorian is Rachel Crawford.”
The school also has 27 seniors receiving the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence.
