The O’Hara High baseball team clinched the tight West Central Conference championship with a decisive win against the St. Pius Warriors, 10-6.
O’Hara beat St. Pius for the second time this season.
Mike Lynch got the start and pitched six strong innings, giving up only one run.
However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lynch hit a batter and gave up four singles, which led to five more runs by Pius.
Aaron Mitchell came into the game in relief with no outs on the scoreboard. After walking the first batter he faced, he gave up a single before recording the next three outs.
Offensively, O’Hara had 10 hits. Mike Rowland was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Chuck Preston went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, and Vince Saviano added two singles.

qualifies for state
The O’Hara High boys tennis team recently became only the second Celtic squad in the school’s history to qualify for state from district play.
In Class 1 District 7 at the Plaza Tennis Courts, the team finished fourth among a field of 14 schools.
The team scored 16 team points, a distance behind the top teams of Pembroke Hill with 26, Barstow with 25.5, and St. Pius X with 23.5. However, the Celtics were well ahead of the fifth spot taken by Lafayette County with 9.5 points.
Among the other schools in the mix were Ruskin, Harrisonville, Clinton, Warrensburg, and Lincoln Prep.
The top seven O’Hara players in the order of their seeding are Cory Palmer, Jake Farrell, Anthony Walker, Cameron Hinkel, Dan O’Connell, Matt Falke and Robert Vaccaro.
Storms, Dennis medal
at district meet
In the Class 3 District 7 track meet in Harrisonville, Max Storms and Bryce Dennis from O’Hara High each won gold and silver medals to qualify for sectional competition.
Timed at 9 minutes, 41.0 seconds, Storms won the 3,200-meter run. and Dennis’ shot put effort of 45 feet, 4 1/2 inches was the best in the district meet.
Adding to those victories, Storms came in a close second in the 1,600, while Dennis had a second place discus throw.
Terrell Johnson and Stevie Katzer took individual fourth places to qualify for sectionals.
Katzer ran the 1,600 in 5:43.9, and Johnson ran the 400 in 50.9.
