Mary Frances DeGrande
1928-2008
Mary Frances DeGrande, 80, Paola, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at home with her loving family after a short illness.
She was born May 3, 1928, in Lenexa to Hugh and Mary Herman Thompson. She attended Franklin Hall School, Olathe, and Holy Trinity Elementary School, Lenexa. She graduated with the class of 1946 from St John High School, Olathe.
She married Bernard J. DeGrande on Feb. 11, 1950 in Lenexa. They made their home on a farm in Paola in 1967.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Miami County Medical Center Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary Post 156, all in Paola. She was a former member of Homemaker FCC and a 4-H leader.
She loved crocheting, knitting, quilting and crafts of all types.
Preceding her in death are a sister, Betty Sue Huber; a brother, James Thompson; and infant twin grandsons.
She is survived by her husband, B.J. DeGrande; sons Carl DeGrande and David DeGrande; and daughter Joyce Smith, all of Paola, daughter Patty Wiseman of Baldwin City; two brothers, Charles Thompson of Olathe and Hugh T. Thompson of Gardner; a sister, Rita Pennybaker of Lawrence; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was May 27 followed by burial at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Paola. Arrangements were handled by Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl, Paola, KS 66071, 294-2372. To leave a special message for the family please visit www.penwellgabel.com
