Everyone should make a point to visit the Miami County Historical (Swan River) Museum this month and check out Louisburg resident Bud Bortner’s Lone Ranger collection.

Bortner will discuss his collection with fans of the Lone Ranger, Tonto and Silver at 12:30 p.m. June 21 at the museum.

The collection provides a glimpse into the masked do-gooder.

“The Lone Ranger” was originally a radio show, which made its debut in 1933. The character was immortalized on the silver screen through a popular TV series that ran from 1949 to 1957. (See related story, Page A10.)

The Bortners’ collection is among the many interesting treasures you will find on display at the museum.

The late Warren McCandless was a former president of the museum’s board of directors and an advocate for promoting the museum throughout the county, not just in Paola where it is based.

McCandless was keen at recruiting volunteers to help out at the museum.

It was his hope that Louisburg residents would serve the museum through their patronage and service. Visiting the museum to see Bortner’s collection and inquiring about how to volunteer is a good way to start.
