Donald “Jimmy” Head
1934-2008
Donald L. Head, 73, Paola, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center.
Donald, also known as Jim, was born on Nov. 27, 1934 to Earl Joseph and Bessie Manilla Hicks Head in Osawatomie.
He attended Stockwell Rural School and one year at the Osawatomie High School.
In 1957 he was inducted to the United States Army where he served until being discharged in 1959. He married Nancy Jean Chester on Nov. 7, 1959, in Paola. He resided in Osawatomie for 24 years and 49 years in Paola.
He was a welder for Taylor Forge 38 years before retiring in 1997, and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and spending time outdoors.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Clifford B. Head, and a sister, Delores Chester.
Survivors are his wife, Nancy of the home; a son, Franklin Head of Paola; a daughter, Teresa Colburn of Lucedale, Miss.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Janice King of Osawatomie. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at the Paola Cemetery.
