Commission meeting Thursday

The Linn County Commission will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Courthouse Annex to discuss the 2009 county budget. County Clerk David Lamb will present an overall budget for tentative approval in order to advertise for a public budget hearing.

Day at the beach in Linn Valley

Linn Valley will have its annual community day, themed “A Day At The Beach,” Saturday at the community center.

Events scheduled include cutest kid, hot dog-eating and pie-eating contests, the touchdown of a Chinook helicopter and the display of other military equipment. At the Linn Valley clubhouse, lawn mower races, a flea market and various other games and events will also be offered.

The Little Mr. and Little Miss Linn Valley pageant will be Saturday at the community center.

Entries for the kids’ coloring contest must be returned by Friday.

Advance voting opened

Voters wishing to get a leg up on the Aug. 5 primaries can now, as of Monday, participate in advance voting at the Linn County Clerk’s Office.

The office is open for advance voting weekdays from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The office will also be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Aug. 2 for voters wishing to cast ballots on a Saturday.

USD 362 Special Budget Meeting

The Prairie View School Board will be presented with a proposed 2008-09 budget at a special meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday. The board will discuss the budget and set a date for a public budget hearing, likely before the regularly scheduled Aug. 11 meeting.

Parker picnic planned

The Parker City Council will host a community picnic Saturday. The town hall meeting and picnic is an effort by the city council to meet with members of the community.

Library closed for reading party

The La Cygne library will be closed Friday for a summer reading party. The library has had more than 200 participants in its summer reading programs.
