Kermit the Frog fell just two votes shy of being Miami Township’s newest Democratic Committeewoman.

The Muppet got the only vote for the position. Committeemen and committeewomen need at least three votes to win a primary election. They also have to live in the district and, well, exist.

“You have to be a person,” said Deputy County Clerk Janet White.

A number of real-live Miami County residents got write-in votes as well during last week’s primary election, being nominated for everything from committeeman to county attorney.

Thirty-nine people got votes for the Republican nomination for county treasurer, including one vote for Scooby Doo.

This year’s list also included some traditional favorites — such as Mickey Mouse — as well as some different names, Deputy Clerk Becky Davis said.

Dog the Bounty Hunter made an unsuccessful run for the Democratic nomination for county attorney, garnering just one vote.

Mickey Mouse was among the many write-in vote getters with two votes. He gathered one each for Louisburg Precinct 3 Committeeman and Committeewoman.

Two candidates were successful, however, on the write-in lines.

Darrel Rodewald received eight votes for Miami Township Treasurer, beating out two other write-in candidates on the Republican side to be on the November ballot.

On the Democratic side, Robert Weir got seven votes for Mound Township Treasurer. He also will be on the November ballot.
