One of Louisburg’s biggest celebrations is right around the corner.

The Louisburg American Legion John P. Hand Post No. 250 will sponsor the 37th annual truck and tractor pull, chicken dinner and labor day celebration Aug. 29 through Sept. 1.

Festivities will begin on Aug. 29 and 30 with a truck and tractor pull. Friday will feature antique tractors, stock 4X4 trucks and small pro stock tractors. Pulling begins at 7 p.m. at Lewis-Young Park.

Admission for Friday’s event is $10 for adults, $5 for older children, and children under 10 are free.

Saturday’s events also begin at 7 p.m. with hot farm tractors, modified tractors and pro stock and street trucks. Admission for Saturday is $15 for adults, $8 for older children, and children under 10 are free.

For information, call (913) 208-0590.

Winners in each class receive $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third.

The event will be held rain or shine.

On Labor Day, festivities will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Louisburg, beginning at South First and Broadway streets.

Legion Commander Wayne Knop said no advance registration is required, but anyone wishing to participate should line up at the farmers market ground at South Second and Mulberry streets at 9 a.m.

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual barbecue chicken dinner after the parade in Legion Hall, South Ninth and Broadway streets.

Tickets are $8, or $5 for a half chicken dinner to go.

Families will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of events, including a kiddie tractor pull, horseshoes, bingo, kiddie train ride, a water slide, moon walk, bungee walk and a petting zoo, just to name a few.

Anyone with questions should call 837-2369 or 837-6052.
