The Northland is full of opportunities for trail enthusiasts, whether on foot or on a bike. Here is a list of some of the public paths north of the river.

Clay County

- Watkins Woolen Mill State Park, 26600 Park Road North, Lawson, 3.8-mile bicycling/walking trail, asphalt

Gladstone

- Hamilton Heights, Northwest 67th Street and North Main Street, walking trail

- Happy Rock Park, Northeast 76th Street and North Antioch, 1-mile fitness trail

- Maple Woods Nature Preserve, Northeast 76th Street and North Prospect, hiking trails

- Oak Grove Park, Northeast 76th Street and North Troost, half-mile walking trail

Kansas City North

- Barry-Platte Park, 8526 N. Old Stage Coach Road, walking trails

- Strathbury Park, Interstate 29 and Northwest 60th Street, asphalt walking trail

- Platte Purchase Park, between Northwest 100th and Northwest 105th streets, West of Platte Purchase Drive, hiking trail

Kearney

- Jesse James Park, walking/exercise trails, chip, chat and asphalt

- Fishing River Trail, starts at high school tennis courts

Liberty

- Bennett Park, 1100 Clayview Drive, 0.75-mile trail, natural surface

- Clay Ridge Park, Ruth Ewing and Current, 0.25-mile trail, asphalt

- Clay Woods/Clay Meadows, 1010 Claywoods Parkway, 0.25-mile trail, asphalt

- Fountain Bluff Sports Complex, 2200 Old 210 Highway, 2.25-mile trail, asphalt

- Jefferson Park/Cates Creek Greenway, south on Missouri Street, 2-mile trail, asphalt

- Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary, 407 N. LaFrenz Road, ADA Trail, half-mile, one way, asphalt; Wornall Trail, 0.25 mile, asphalt; Rush Creek Trail, 0.7 mile; South Meadow Trail, 0.7 mile; Woodland Trail, 0.6 mile; Prairie Trail, 0.4 mile

- Northwyck Park, 1617 Ridgeway Drive, half-mile trail, asphalt

- Stocksdale Park, 901 S. LaFrenz Road, half-mile trail, asphalt, 1-mile natural surface trail; 2.7-mile bike trail

- Westboro/Canterbury Greenway, 1400 Canterbury Lane, two-mile trail, asphalt/concrete

- Wilshire Park, 755 Wilshire Blvd., half-mile trail, asphalt

North Kansas City

- Macken Park, Clark Ferguson Drive and Howell Street, 1-mile asphalt walking trail

Parkville

- English Landing Trail, south end of Main Street: 2-mile trail

- White Alloe Creek Conservation Area, mostly a forest area adjoining the Parkville Nature Sanctuary, has three trails and two paths

Riverside

- Missouri Riverfront Trail, 3.7-mile trail

Smithville

- Smithville Lake, four main trails: Smokin’ Davey, Bonebender, Wildcat Holler and Cabin Fever, 23 miles of paved multi-use trails
