Louisburg residents sharpened their gaming skills Saturday night.

But instead of tossing around the pigskin or shooting hoops, residents were sharpening their pencils and their brains for the annual Community Bingo Night held at Louisburg Middle School.

Shava Vohs of LMS said this year saw the largest turnout for the event of the three or four years since the bingo night started.

As the event has grown, Vohs said, more and more donations have been received from individuals in the community, as well as local businesses.

Door prizes for bingo winners this year included various items from First Option Bank, several toys for children, as well as picture frames, ceramic ware, piggy banks and candles, to name a few items.

The raffle prizes stole the show, though.

Vohs said the Cool Cats, which is essentially the school’s PTO organization, purchases a majority of the raffle prizes, which included a 31.5-inch Sanyo flatscreen television, an Apple iPad, a set of five Mattel Barbie “Wizard of Oz” dolls and an Amazon Kindle, which was donated.

Vohs added that the funds raised by the event are used to pay for students’ field trips throughout the year, which cost about $2,500 for busing, gas, etc.

This year the bingo event raised just over $4,000, which is an amazing feat, but half of which will immediately go back to field trips.

Vohs said she hopes to receive more donations from businesses and individuals next year, but added she understands how hard it is for some to always be donating to various events and fundraisers.

“The kids just love it,” she said. “Plus it gives people something to do when there’s not a lot going on and it’s cold out.”

Vohs said she and the Cool Cats are open to suggestions for next year’s Community Bingo Night, and she hopes it continues to get bigger and bigger each year.
