The Louisburg City Council recognized several audience members during its meeting Jan. 17.

A handful of members from Boy Scout Troop 101 attended the meeting with incoming Scoutmaster John Cassida in order to receive their merit badges for community and communication.

Council members also heard an update from City Administrator Jeff Cantrell concerning the Marais des Cygnes Public Utility Authority numbers and how the city is doing in comparison to others. Cantrell said this year the city did fairly well with water rates from the PUA, but he did add that in the years to come it will increase slightly.

The PUA is the entity that sells water to Louisburg and Paola, and Cantrell said if its rates go up, so will the cities’ rates. However, winter is a tricky time to judge what water will do, he added.

In other business at the meeting, council members passed a GAAP waiver resolution.
