Tyler Fletcher and Cam Seck combined for 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Paola Middle School seventh-grade boys’ junior varsity basketball team defeated Pioneer Ridge, 26-24, to win the league tournament.

Fletcher scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds. Seck had six points and seven rebounds.

The Panthers used a 9-3 fourth-quarter run to seal the win at Spring Hill on Feb. 11.

Paola held a 7-4 advantage in the first quarter and outscored Pioneer Ridge 7-6 in the second quarter.

After being outscored 11-8 in the third quarter, Paola roared back with the 9-3 run in the final eight minutes to win.

Seck scored four of his six points in the fourth quarter to lead the way.

Nate Trigg and Fletcher each had two points in the fourth quarter. Thomas Ryckert made a free throw.

Ryckert scored five points. Draven McDowell had four points. Also scoring were Trigg and Shannon Holcomb.

Holcomb added six rebounds. Ryckert had five rebounds.

McDowell had four steals and one assist. Fletcher had two steals.

Paola defeated Louisburg, 29-23, in the semifinals.

The Panthers trailed 11-10 at the half, but outscored the Wildcats 8-4 in the third quarter and 11-8 in the fourth quarter to pull off the six-point victory.

Ryckert scored nine points to lead the Panthers, including four points in the fourth quarter. Ryckert had 10 rebounds and seven steals to lead the defense.

Fletcher scored four of his six points in the fourth quarter.

Ted Smith added six points. McDowell had five points. Seck posted three points.

Holcomb grabbed eight rebounds. Fletcher had seven rebounds. Trigg and Seck each had five rebounds.

McDowell had five steals. Trigg had four steals. Holcomb added three steals.

The Paola junior varsity defeated Ottawa, 29-20, on Feb. 9.

Seck led Paola with 10 points. Fletcher had nine points.

Other players scoring for the Panthers were McDowell, Ryckert, Holcomb and Jon Harper.

Fletcher had eight rebounds. Seck grabbed seven rebounds. Seck added two assists and two steals. Fletcher had four steals. Holcomb had two assists and one steal.

The Paola junior varsity lost at Louisburg, 32-29, on Feb. 6.

Ryckert led the team with 10 points.

Ted Smith had seven points, and McDowell scored six points.

Also scoring for Paola were Seck and Fletcher.

Seck had seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Ryckert had six rebounds. Fletcher grabbed five rebounds. Smith had four rebounds.

Playing for the Paola seventh-grade junior varsity boys’ basketball team are Tyler Fletcher, Jon Harper, Shannon Holcomb, Domitri Lowry, Draven McDowell, Thomas Ryckert, Cam Seck, Ed Smith, Ted Smith and Nate Trigg.
