Central Heights falls short of state

COUNCIL GROVE — Central Heights was shut out of the Class 3-1A state wrestling tournament after the Vikings won only eight matches and finished 18th in the team standings with 26 points at Friday’s and Saturday’s regional tournament at Council Grove High School.

Dustin Asbury fell shy of qualifying for the state tournament for the second straight year after going 2-2 with two pins at 126 pounds. He pinned Sabetha’s Ben Meyer in his first match, but lost two of his next three matches.

Levi Snow and Dillon Schwab also went 2-2.

Snow won his first match, a second-period pin of Rossville’s Cole Brecheisen, but lost two of his last three matches at 132.

The tournament also got off to a promising start for Schwab as he pinned Silver Lake’s Dalton Massek with 19 seconds remaining in the first period. Schwab, though, lost two of his next three matches at 170.

Gage Holler went 1-2 with a second-period pin at 182. Blake Anderson was 1-2 with an 11-2 major decision at 220.

Also competing for Central Heights were J.R. Kimball (0-2 at 113), Donavon Milliken (0-2 at 138), Kaleb Grimsley (0-2 at 152), J.R. Dunnivan (0-2 at 160), Eli Davis (0-2 at 195) and Jake Green (0-2 at 285).
